Welcome to Gerakbudaya Bookshop
We are passionate about the books that matter
Announcement: Covid-19 and the Movement Control Order
We are pleased to inform you that we resumed handling online orders from Friday 8 May 2020. We have waived all postal charges for books ordered online via the website – your books will be delivered as soon as our carriers are able to do so and with no shipping charges.
Both bookshops reopened for business on Wednesday 13 May 2020. The opening hours remain the same as always: 11.00am–8.00pm. We are offering a 10 per cent discount on all books bought in-store.
We will be following the health and safety protocols for all visitors:
➼ taking body temperatures with a contactless thermometer;
➼ providing masks for those who need them and hand sanitiser;
➼ recording contact details to help with tracing.
Thank you for your patience during these extraordinary times. We look forward to seeing you again very soon.
Opened in 2014 and 2018, and located in the heart of George Town’s world heritage site, the two Gerakbudaya Bookshopsare an essential part of the city’s cultural life. The name of the bookshop is well chosen. In the Malay language, gerak denotes move while budaya means culture. We hope our presence helps stimulate fresh, radical ideas and new forms of cultural engagement in Penang and beyond. Gerakbudaya Bookshop is a place for people who love books to meet, talk and, of course, browse. Visit us any time.
