25 Jan Johan Galtung in Penang

We are very honoured to be co-organising – together with the Penang Institute – a public talk (actually described as an “intimate session”) with the great Johan Galtung. The theme of his presentation is the intriguingly titled “A Theory of China: Space/Dynasty vs Empire” and will look at the consequences of China’s presence for Malaysia and the wider region.

⇒ Johan Galtung has been one of the world’s leading thinkers on a number of key themes of contemporary global politics since the 1960s – above all on peace education and conflict resolution. In 1993, he founded TRANSCEND, a network for Peace and Development, which is now running Transcend Peace University. And in 1987 he was given The Right Livelihood Award (the Alternative Nobel Prize) “for his systematic and multidisciplinary study of the conditions which can lead to peace”.
