June’s Bestsellers

And the winner is … Khoo Salma’s perennial chart-topper Streets of George Town. Salma’s new volume, The Chulia in Penang, also makes it to the top ten this month. It’s quite an eclectic collection of titles – including the first children’s book to do so well (Tip Toe Tapir) – which we think is a healthy thing.

Here’s the list:

1. Khoo Su Nin, Streets of George Town Penang
2. Donna Amoroso, Traditionalism and the Ascendancy of the Malay Ruling Class
3. Anna Tan (ed.), Love in Penang
4. Kim Han-min, Tip Toe Tapir
5. Farish A. Noor, What Your Teacher Didn’t Tell You
6. Shaharuddin Maaruf, Malay Ideas on Development
7. Musimgrafik, Where Monsoons Meet: A People’s History of Malaya
8. Khoo Salma, The Chulia in Penang
9. Leo Burnett (ed.), Yasmin: How You Know?
10. = Marc de Faoite, Tropical Madness
10. = Syed Husin Ali, The Malay Rulers: Regression or Reform?
