Based above Gerakbudaya Bookshop Penang, Impress Creative & Editorial offers vast experience and expertise in the areas of research, writing and editing at all stages towards the publication of books. It offers high-quality services with the flexibility required by individual clients. This means informed research (including specialised fields), compelling writing and effective editing of copy. Clients include SIRD, Springer, Routledge, National University of Singapore Press, Wiley-Blackwell, University of Malaya Press, Areca Books and the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies.

Hikayat
Hikayat is Penang’s newest space for arts and letters, and houses Gerakbudaya Bookshop’s second store specialising in non-fiction titles. It also contains an events space, Hikayat Blue, open to anyone who wants to call it their base, and hosting film screenings, talks, reading groups, exhibitions, workshops and more. The Writers’ Suite is the home of a residency programme for people working on the last stretch to finish a book, a play, an album or anything creative. A podcast studio which will, in time, evolve into a high-quality podcast facility promoting literature, the arts and lifelong learning. And Cerita Cafe, serving delicious food and drink in a space that respects reading and conversations.

The Penang Bookshelf
Founded by William Knox in 2010, The Penang Bookshelf is the leading seller of rare and antiquarian books, especially on Malaysia and Southeast Asia. William is also the current president of the Independent Online Booksellers Association. He conducts regular consultancy sessions in Gerakbudaya Bookshop every Sunday and by appointment.

Penang Institue
The Penang Institute is the public policy think tank of the state government of Penang. With the tagline ‘Making Ideas Work’, it seeks to spur bold thinking in the key areas of economics, socio-politics and sustainable development through research, exchange and policy advocacy. The Penang Institute jointly organises the Nusantara Forum series of public talks with Gerakbudaya Bookshop.
