Malaya: 500 Early Postcards

Author:

Based on a selection from the authors private collection, Malaya 500 Early Postcards offers a rare and comprehensive glimpse into the changing landscapes, townscapes and lifestyles of Malaya, from the late 19th century to 1963, when it was renamed Malaysia.

The book traces key developments in the early production of picture postcards in Malaya. In the main section, the history of Malaya is presented pictorially by a series of postcard galleries subdivided into the various states of the Federated Malay States (Pahang, Perak, Selangor and Negri Sembilan), the Unfederated Malay States (Johore, Terengganu, Kelantan, Kedah and Perlis) and the Strait Settlements (Penang and Malacca, excluding Singapore). Many of the images are extremely vivid, some of them are very rare collectors items.
