Lee Joo For Retrospective

Lee Joo For was born in Penang and studied in St Xavier’s Institution in Penang. In 1948, he was appointed art teacher in his alma mater. He was secretary of the Penang Teacher’s Council and a founder member of the Thursday Art Group in Penang. He was later appointed as art lecturer at the Specialist Teachers Training Institute, Cheras, Kuala Lumpur.

In the 80s and 90s, he held several solo exhibitions in Penang, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. Lee Joo For has since moved to Australia and became ever busy directing musicals and plays there.

Lee Joo For is a prodigious artist and printmaker. His oeuvre spans a period of 51 years, since 1957, when Malaya achieved independence. This monograph is in two parts. The first part includes Q&A session with Lee Joo For as well as contribution of 14 chapters by Mr. Ooi Kok Chuen who is among the top art writer in Malaysia. The second part is an appendix which includes Lee Joo For’s autobiography, reviews and articles.
