Panicrama

The invention of a panoramic function for a new generation of digital cameras has transformed photography in novel ways. Tan Yeow Wooi’s latest collection of images makes innovative and experimental use of this way of shooting, calling it an ‘anti-photography method’. In doing so, he has created a new form of street photography. Creating images of streetscapes and buildings, many of which are familiar, but manipulated in odd ways, the resulting pictures often produce a sense of unease or anxiety in the viewer and even (perhaps) a sense of panic. Accompanied by a curatorial essay by Gareth Richards, Panicrama offers a glimpse into an exciting way of representing the city and its (dis)contents.
