Ruth Wong: Educationist And Teacher Extraordinaire

Author:
This book recounts how Ruth Wong, the eldest in a family of ten, was called to be a teacher, abandoning her childhood ambition of becoming a doctor due to family circumstances. Her family background and Christian upbringing gave her implicit faith in God. “I left no post by deliberate choice to further my own ambitions”. In her personal life, she was a beacon and role model to many.

She dedicated her whole life-time career in the quest for excellence in education. Her emphasis that children are not inanimate objects but have feelings and emotions and each child is an individual requiring different treatment to bring out the best in him/her led to a change of mindset in teachers. She led the way to improve not only attitudes and methods in student teaching but also instituted a major transformation in teacher education.

As an educationist and teacher, she expanded the fruitful classroom relationships into extra-classroom guidance. Anecdotes recounted by family, friends, colleagues, and students testify to the legacy she left behind, etched in the hearts and minds of all those whose lives she touched.

At the end of 44 years of teaching, she looked back with joy and thanked God for His choice in her life. Hers was a fulfilled life!
